Bridge Classes at the Buchanan 2010 - 2011

The Buchanan Bridge Club has an excellent education programme which is based on the Scottish Bridge Union's teaching programme.  It consists of sixty lessons, taught over three years in order to allow time for revision and consolidation.  Our teachers are very experienced, both as teachers and as bridge players.

Classes are held in the club which is situated near Charing Cross.  You do not have to join the club to attend classes.

THURSDAY  EVENING  CLASSES
This year  these classes will begin on Thursday 2nd September 2010.  The start time is 7.00pm.

BEGINNERS'  CLASS
This will be taught by Peter Cairns and covers lessons 1 to 20 of the SBU programme.

INTERMEDIATE 1  CLASS
This will be taught by Trish Matheson and covers lessons 21 to 40 of the SBU programme.
If you have made good progress, there is the opportunity of attending our 'No Fear' tournament on a Tuesday evening throughout the year, and a Wednesday morning 'No Fear' tournament in the summer from May to August.
INTERMEDIATE 2  CLASS
This will be taught by Heather and David Merriman and covers lessons 41 to 60 of the SBU programme.
We would strongly encourage you to attend either or both of the 'No Fear' tournaments described above.  At the end of this class, if you have completed the course successfully, you will be recommended by your teacher for associate membership of the club.  As an associate member, you are entitled to play in Monday, Wednesday and Saturday tournaments in the club.
THURSDAY  PRACTICE  TOURNAMENT
This is run by Ricky Finlayson throughout the year. There are prepared hands with accompanying notes, to allow you to practise your bidding and play.  After completing the sixty SBU lessons, you may play in this tournament for up to two years, and you may also play in it during the summer months when the intermediate lessons stop.

ADVANCED  LESSONS
These are for associate members and are taught by Norman McGeagh, one of our Grand Masters. He covers selected conventions and play by both defence and declarer. These classes start on Thursday 2nd September at 7.00pm and Tuesday 7th September at 7.15pm.
